There is no shortage of different FoodSaver vacuum sealers on the market. In fact, the brand seems to more models than necessary, especially when you consider the way that many of them are similar to one another.

But, there are differences too. In this case, the vacuum sealer is one of FoodSaver’s premium models and is one of the most expensive options that the company produces.

So, what is it that makes this particular model interesting?

Standard Features

The basic function of a vacuum sealer is the same regardless of the model you choose and the FoodSaver Premium is no exception. The general idea is to remove air from bags via suction and then seal them.

Like many similar models, the FoodSaver Premium operates through an external design. This means that the open side of the bag is fed into the machine. The suction occurs via that side and the bag is sealed afterward.

The design is efficient for most uses and tends to create a strong seal that can last for months or even years. As a result, vacuum sealing is a great way to increase the shelf life of food and make sure that your food tastes great even after it has been stored.

Extra Features

This is a premium model, so it shouldn’t be any surprise that it comes with many extra features. The most obvious example is the 2-in-1 function, which refers to the device on the left-hand side of the vacuum sealer.

Essentially, that device is a miniature handheld vacuum sealer and it interacts with specially designed products from FoodSaver. For example, it can be used on containers, canisters and zipper bags. Likewise, it has a marinate function that allows you to marinate food within minutes instead of hours.

The catch is that you do have to buy the various extras and accessories from FoodSaver to use this part of the vacuum sealer. Still, the approach does give you a wide range of advantages and would let you vacuum seal much more than you could otherwise.

There are also extra features in terms of settings. For example, there are buttons for sealing bags immediately and for sealing and cutting at the same time.

Likewise, some of the settings are designed to make bag making easier, if you are using bag rolls rather than premade bags. A key aspect of this is an automatic roll dispenser, something that I haven’t seen on many other models.

User Experience

The pattern of user experiences for this model is a little unusual. Typically, vacuum sealers receive a variety of reviews on Amazon, including many 4-star and 5-star reviews, along with some 1-star and 2-star ones.

In the case, of the FoodSaver premium, almost 80% of the reviews are 5-star and close to 10% are 1-star. This suggests that most people end up either loving or hating the vacuum sealer.

Most of the positive perspectives indicate that it works extremely effectively, is sturdy and has a powerful vacuum. Indeed, many people find that this is more powerful than the previous models, which seems to be a key selling point.

Still, as is often the case, defective units do exist and some people end up with models that simply don’t work. In some cases, returning the item and getting a replacement can be easy enough but dealing with customer service is never enjoyable and doesn’t always go well.

The ratio of reviews suggests that defective items are relatively rare and overall the unit seems to be a good investment. After all, the presence of some bad units seems to be significant for any household product and the best that companies can do is reduce the prevalence of defects.

Comparing The FoodSaver Premium 2-in-1 To Other Vacuum Sealers

As I mentioned previously, FoodSaver produces a range of models and there are some that are fairly similar to this one. In particular, the FoodSaver V4840 and V4440 both also have the 2-in-1 functionality. Those models tend to be more popular than this one as well, while also less expensive.

One interesting thing is that the FoodSaver Premium actually lacks some features. For example, it doesn’t have settings for moist and dry foods. Likewise, there are no speed settings for the vacuum.

In contrast, you do get the moist and dry settings with the FoodSaver V4840 model. Additionally, that model is considerably cheaper. The main difference is that it doesn’t have the automatic bag functions but most people probably won’t need these anyway.

FoodSaver also notes that the vacuum sealer can do from 6 to 8 consecutive seals before it needs to be cooled down. This is an advantage over many other models, where you often need to wait between seals. Nevertheless, if you plan to vacuum pack a lot of food at once, you might be better with a model like the GameSaver Big Game, which offers up to 80 seals.

Who Is The FoodSaver Premium 2-in-1 Best For?

This model is a good choice for people who plan to vacuum seal often and keep the machine on the counter. Certainly, the vacuum sealer is sturdier than most and the ability to consecutively seal makes it particularly appealing.

At the same time, the automatic bag making aspects of the vacuum sealer may make it great for people who seal a decent amount of food at any given time, as well as people trying to be as efficient as possible.

  • Strong vacuum
  • Automatic bag making feature
  • 2-in-1 functionality
  • Study design
  • Emphasis on quality

  • Doesn’t have moist/dry setting
  • No speed settings
  • Expensive
  • Takes up a significant amount of space

For the intended purpose, the FoodSaver Premium 2-in-1 appears to work well. Certainly, it would be effective for vacuum sealing food frequently. The automatic bag dispensing functionality may also be appealing for some people.

So, if you’re looking for something that is going to last and work well, the model is one of the better options on the market.

Still, the vacuum sealer is one of the most expensive options from FoodSaver and doesn’t even have all of the features that the earlier models have. As a result, many people may find some of those models appealing, particularly the V4440 and the V4840.

Those may not be quite as sturdy and don’t have the same bag dispensing features. Nevertheless, the lower price of those models, along with the differences in function might make them a better option in some cases.
