FoodSaver 4980 2-in-1 Vacuum Sealer Review
|Product Name:||FoodSaver 4980 2-in-1 Vacuum Sealer|
Vacuum sealers make for a great kitchen tool, especially if you’re looking for a way to save money or ensure your food lasts longer. But, there really are too many different models out there. To make matters worse, some of them are fairly similar to one another.
If you want to pick the best one for your needs, then it’s important to look at what the individual models do and how well they perform. And, that’s precisely what these reviews do.
In this case, the model in question is the FoodSaver 4980. This is one of FoodSaver’s 2-in-1 models. It’s also a vacuum sealer that’s designed to sit on the bench, partly because of the space it takes up.
Still, it is an appealing option for a vacuum sealer, especially if you want something for consistent use.
The basic idea of a vacuum sealer is fairly simple and is the same regardless of the specific model you use. In each case, the machine removes air from bags and then seals them. Typically, that seal is made using a heat bar, which is why you need to use specialized bags.
There are a few different types of vacuum sealers but the main style is external models, like the FoodSaver 4980. With an external vacuum sealer, only the edge of the bag is placed into the machine.
From there, the air is withdrawn and a seal made across the entire edge. For the most part, this design works very well, which is why most consumer models operate in this manner.
All vacuum sealers may have the same basic features but there are some key differences as well. Those variations are the main selling points for models like this one.
With the FoodSaver 4980, one significant aspect is the 2-in-1 functionality. The phrase is used to refer to the small handheld vacuum sealer on the left-hand side of the machine. This miniature sealer is retractable and is used for extra functions.
For example, it is effective for canisters that come from FoodSaver, along with zipper bags and even specialized wine corks. Now, many vacuum sealers do have an accessory port that allows for some of those functions. But, you can certainly do more with the handheld sealer.
A related feature is the ability to marinate food within minutes. This uses the handheld vacuum sealer as well and would be a good way to speed up meal preparation.
There is a range of other features also, including roll storage, a bag cutter and separate settings for moist and dry food.
Additionally, there is a pulse setting. This allows you to manually remove air and then seal the bag yourself if you want to. Being able to do so gives you much more control for delicate foods. At the same time, this means that you don’t have to completely rely on the machine’s automatic sensor.
The balance of reviews for this model is extremely encouraging. In particular, on Amazon, the FoodSaver 4980 receives an average of 4.7 stars and 85% of the reviews give it a 5-star rating.
Indeed, there are hardly any negative reviews for the vacuum sealer and some of those are connected to shipping, rather than the item itself.
On the other hand, the FoodSaver 4980 does have fewer reviews than many other FoodSaver models. This suggests that it isn’t nearly as popular or as well-known.
Comparing The FoodSaver 4980 To Other Vacuum Sealers
FoodSaver offers a wide range of different models, including a few that are very similar to this one. For example, the FoodSaver V4840 and V4440 both have a similar overall design and functions. They are also 2-in-1 models and work in exactly the same way.
One of the main differences between them may be the pulse function from the FoodSaver 4980, as the other models do not appear to have this. Nevertheless, the FoodSaver V4840 and the V4440 have many more reviews, along with a high positive rating on Amazon.
As a result, those two models may be a safer choice than the FoodSaver 4980, especially if you don’t actually need the pulse aspect.
There are also many other options on the market. For example, if you’re looking for something less bulky, the FoodSaver FM2435-ECR is one way to go. That model has a much smaller profile but has the same general features. It even has the same handheld sealer.
Alternatively, there are entry-level models available. These tend to be less expensive and have fewer features. But, they’re perfect if you just need something simple.
There are many inexpensive options but the best two that I’ve found are the Useful UH-VS140 and the Gourmia GVS425. Both have more features than you would expect and come with surprisingly favorable reviews.
Who Is The FoodSaver 4980 Best For?
The FoodSaver 4980 is best for people who want significant versatility. The 2-in-1 functionality, along with the pulse control and additional settings means that you can vacuum seal many different types of products and containers. Likewise, you have more control than normal when you’re doing so.
The model is also a good choice if you like vacuum sealers that have many functions but don’t want something completely automatic. There are relatively few other models with all these features that also let you manually control the vacuum.
- Pulse feature
- 2-in-1 functionality
- Good reviews
- Roll storage and bag cutter
- Ability to rapidly marinate
- Automatic operation
- Relatively few reviews
- Is fairly large
- Still doesn’t work well with moist foods
The one thing that makes this model stand out is the pulse feature. Other vacuum sealers have this option as well but it is unusual to see it on a 2-in-1 machine.
With that in mind, the FoodSaver 4980 may be a good choice if you’re specifically interested in that feature. Likewise, the machine is one of relatively few that gives you both automatic and manual control.
However, if the pulse aspect isn’t appealing, then there isn’t much reason for picking this model. Instead, you may be better turning to some of FoodSaver’s other models, like the V4840 and the V4440. These tend to be more popular and do have the same general selection of features.Get This Vacuum Sealer Here!
